Microsoft Word version saved filed documents/Converter

Have a Word doc saved version alternative to standard Adobe PDF. My computer had a virus which used the majority of common apps, browsers, software, Adobe PDF, Microsoft Word doc, Firefox, chrome, etc stemming from my College (Stockton University) which caused a lot of issues on my application when I first filed still existing today and all uploaded documents prior to COVID-19. I would suggest so no one else has others... more »

Miscellaneous

Supply all valid browsers, servers, etc. to be downloaded

It would be great if the USPTO could supply all valid/legitmate browsers, apps, software, servers, etc. to be downloaded. In other words I had a computer virus that used all the common browsers and files and apps and security encryptions used against me stemming from Stockton University that created a block that caused a technical difficulty on the USPTO. In other words I had to used their system (USPTO) to solve mailing... more »

application details/Examiner name

We usually like to copy and paste the applicant info from Patent Center into our documents as to avoid typos. If you are signed in to PC you can't copy the examiner name. It does a pop up instead with their name (which is appreciated) but we should still be able to copy the text. However, we noticed if you are NOT signed in to PC the popup doesn't work but you can select the examiner name on public applications. Is there... more »

View Receipt History is broken

The addition of the "View Receipt History" feature to the Workbench recently was a nice addition, but it is broken. It seems to only show receipts for \*new\* application filings (the inaptly named "new submissions") and does not list receipts for submissions in existing applications (the inaptly named "existing submissions"). While having receipt information for new application filings is certainly useful, that information... more »

Submissions for matters that are not on your customer number(s)

The ability to submit documents in an application that is not associated with a customer number that you are associated with is broken, at least with respect to uploads by sponsored staff. We went to file a change of power of attorney today, and my secretary successfully uploaded it under my sponsorship. It gave her a warning that the application was not associated with any of my customer numbers, but let her upload and... more »

Managing Customer Numbers

Managing Customer Numbers is a function of administrative staff in law firms. The new requirement to have the practitioner sign the change is impractical because partners do not want to be bothered with these administrative tasks. They prefer to instruct their administrators to make the change and the changes to then be completed.

There is no current requirement for practitioner signature in Private PAIR. The existing... more »

PatentCenter should have shareable address books

One of our listserv members writes: Address books should be sharable among Patentcenter users, using the "access rights" mechanism of Feature Request FR37. This is of course a well-known and frequently used feature in ePCT.

This is Feature Request FR38 from the PatentCenter listserv Feature Request page at https://patentcenter-tickets.oppedahl.com/patentcenter-feature-requests/.

Patent Center should have an Address Book

One of our listserv members writes: The process of populating an Application Data Sheet should be helped by provision of an Address Book. To see this look at the Address Book that WIPO provided in PCT-SAFE more than fifteen years ago. The idea is that the filer can populate his or her address book. Once the address book is successfully populated with information that is known to be correct, then the filer can with a mouse... more »

Customer number is awkward for granting access rights

One of our listserv members writes: The granting of access rights by one registered practitioner to other registered practitioners is presently mediated using the awkward "customer number" system. The "customer number" system is being twisted too many ways to try to do too many things. It ought to be possible to grant access rights as in ePCT, with access granted to some other registered practitioner as to selected applications.... more »

Access rights needs to have permission levels

One of our listserv members writes; The granting of access rights needs to have permission levels, as in ePCT. One level should be like the ePCT "eViewer" where the person who has received the rights can "look but not touch". Then there can be a higher level like the ePCT "eEditor" where the person who has received the rights has the ability not only to see the application but can also take actions regarding the application.... more »

Current Sponsorship is insufficient

One of our listserv members writes: The existing method of providing access to paralegals is too coarse. It is "all or nothing", all applications to which the attorney has access or no applications. The granting of access rights needs to be sophisticated as in ePCT, so that rights can be given as to selected applications. For example, a practitioner on multiple customer numbers cannot sponsor someone only for a particular... more »

Patent Center should reveal application status better

One lineserv member writes:

There are many things that Palm reveals to people inside of the USPTO, that PAIR and Patentcenter do not reveal to applicants. Here are some of those things that Patentcenter should reveal to applicants.

On the Application Data tab, Patentcenter should display a "yes" or "no" as to whether the application is "special".

Get rid of or correct or improve the "boy who cried wolf" nag me

A listserv member suggests: get rid of or correct or improve the "boy who cried wolf" nag message about paying fees.

Every user of Patentcenter has by now gotten very accustomed to the warning that always appears just above the "submit" button in every Patentcenter filing in which you fail to pay money. The warning goes on at some length about how maybe you need to pay money now, or maybe you don't, and Patentcenter... more »
