Perhaps a secure portal could be added through which an applicant or applicant's representative can send an examiner a password to open an encrypted file containing claim drafts or other material before an interview meeting. The portal would not burden an examiner with any messages or e-mail, but would contain only a password and would indicate the type of file that would later arrive by e-mail or file-sharing platform. ...more »
Allow users to access PRIVATE PAIR via a mobile device. Provide a mobile-optimized view of documents and status of cases.
The 'more information' links on EFS link to either an Error 404 page or a page with the note that they are no longer maintained and not a part of the new website.
I assume this is a new issue now that uspto.gov has been redesigned, but it's a pretty major faux pas.
In PAIR, the ability to download XML data for a customer number is useful, but two suggestions: 1) Have an option to get data from all your customer numbers at once; and 2) include in the XML an indicator of current status. It already lets you filter on application status ('all', 'new', 'pending', 'issued', 'abandoned', 'other') - simply include this status tag in the download.
The last update to the Application Data Sheet (aia/0014) broke the XML import/export functionality. Please bring that back.
Sometimes waiting on hold for the PTO is quite infuriating. Considering the large volume of calls placed daily, could the PTO implement a digital VOIP to enable calls through a caller's computer that has a microphone and speaker? This could allow for useful on screen features, s.a. a time to available agent, call position in queue, and other stats, which could be displayed quietly in the background while the caller ...more »
Due to updated NIST guidelines, the USPTO plans to set the user inactivity timeout to 30 minutes in Patent Center. After 25 minutes of user inactivity, Patent Center will prompt you to continue with the authenticated session. If you do not confirm that that you want to continue, your session will terminate in order to protect your patent application data. In most cases, to sign back in after a timeout, you would only ...more »
Please include all pertinent applicant/application information on the first page of the official Filing Receipt, such as the title of the application and the entity status. Often this information is on second page, which I find a nuisance.
This idea is similar to one I posted earlier, but comes up in a different context. See: https://uspto-emod.ideascale.com/a/dtd/537995-31593, for the original idea relating to correcting EFS-Web filings after pressing the Submit button). Sometimes, either due to an error on behalf of the filer or due to the USPTO Financial Manager not working properly, submissions are made without payment of fees that are due. Sometimes ...more »
When an Examiner cites references, we only receive that list in a PDF.
Please make the list of cited references available a soft copy form, such as CSV, XML, or Doc.
This would improve our ability to consistently cross-cite, and also our ability to confirm that the patent numbers cited are accurate.
The side menu bar, for me, takes up screen real estate that seems so unnecessary. I feel that having those shortcuts are important to have,I certainly use them all the time, but I think that maybe they can just be combined with the top menu (Home, Patents, Trademarks etc,) that is already there. Some of the shortcuts are already there anyway and it's a little redundant. I think it they could just add the few other ...more »
Right now, a single customer number is associated with a particular client, and/or firm. Multiple practitioners are typically associated with each customer number. Yet only 1-3 practitioners (prosecuting practitioner and their supervisor(s)) are actually responsible for a particular case. It would be helpful to the practitioner if there was a way within PAIR to view their cases. Most practitioners buy expensive software, ...more »
