Perhaps a secure portal could be added through which an applicant or applicant's representative can send an examiner a password to open an encrypted file containing claim drafts or other material before an interview meeting. The portal would not burden an examiner with any messages or e-mail, but would contain only a password and would indicate the type of file that would later arrive by e-mail or file-sharing platform. ...more »
Allow users to access PRIVATE PAIR via a mobile device. Provide a mobile-optimized view of documents and status of cases.
Due to updated NIST guidelines, the USPTO plans to set the user inactivity timeout to 30 minutes in Patent Center. After 25 minutes of user inactivity, Patent Center will prompt you to continue with the authenticated session. If you do not confirm that that you want to continue, your session will terminate in order to protect your patent application data. In most cases, to sign back in after a timeout, you would only ...more »
The 'more information' links on EFS link to either an Error 404 page or a page with the note that they are no longer maintained and not a part of the new website.
I assume this is a new issue now that uspto.gov has been redesigned, but it's a pretty major faux pas.
In PAIR, the ability to download XML data for a customer number is useful, but two suggestions: 1) Have an option to get data from all your customer numbers at once; and 2) include in the XML an indicator of current status. It already lets you filter on application status ('all', 'new', 'pending', 'issued', 'abandoned', 'other') - simply include this status tag in the download.
The last update to the Application Data Sheet (aia/0014) broke the XML import/export functionality. Please bring that back.
The web-based ADS does not fill in a date on the PDF version, it just leaves the field blank. It does not appear to go back and add the date once it's actually filed. This creates a poor file copy for our records. Would like the web-ADS complete with signing date to show up as a downloadable link at the confirm/submit stage, so I can get a file copy without having to go into Private PAIR as a second step.
Users must access Financial Manager to add new personnel to their stored payment methods. When a user first logs into Financial Manager, they should have an opportunity to collapse various notifications so that toggling between payment methods eliminates the substantial space taken up by the notifications. To better confirm users have reviewed the data, the option to collapse could appear after initial login. For example, ...more »
Currently, in private PAIR, there are, more or less, two options to download XML-related data for a patent application. One option is the ability to download a list of applications associated with a customer number and includes general status information. Another option is to XML download a more detailed set of information pertaining to a specific patent application - this can be done one application at a time. For ...more »
I submitted a related idea entitled "Access Financial Manager via EFS login". However, even if that is not implemented, a helpful improvement would be to link the log-in to financial manager to your session in EFS-web, such that if you make several submissions in EFS-web you will not be logged out of financial manager if you wait too long between submissions and have to log in again. In the new Patent Center concept, ...more »
Since entity status may be updated through Private PAIR, it would be fantastic to have the ability to search by customer number and have returned in the results entity status. This would allow practitioners a quick way to review entity status for potential review. Additional useful, and impressive if possible, would be the ability to select the matters in the list to begin a bulk entity status change rather than having ...more »
I often file "Comments on the Notice of Allowance." At this time, it appears I cannot do that through the e-Issue fee payment, which only permits three categories of uploads:
