ADS form improvement

Preparing an ADS is simply a pain. Even worse is preparation of an ADS with corrections. It would be easier if there was some way to either correct or modify an ADS from EFS or at least provide a way to use underline and strikethrough on the ADS fillable form.

Next Generation Application Filing

eMod is planning to automate many data entry tasks when filing a new patent application via Patent Center. On the initial step of the filing process, we are proposing the option to allow users to upload their completed ADS, and have the system extract the required basic information automatically. Would you like this feature? Please see the mock-ups in the attachments section below or at the links listed, and share your... more »

Payment for Electronic Filing

When paying PTO fees, we have to re-enter the credit card info, address, etc., separately for each filing. Why not enable registered filers to save the credit card info under a login name and password so that multiple filings could be paid for without repeated entries of personal info.

Corrections during filing of applications

Currently, if you discover that you have made a typo or checked a wrong box in the first part of a new application filing, there seems to be no way to go back and fix it without losing all of your uploads. You should be able to edit and fix these things easily at least prior to actual submission.

Improve Handling of Drawings

Drawings currently submitted under EFS that don't have a monochromatic palette (i.e. pure black and pure white) end up getting a grayscale screen that distorts the drawing. This problem has been discussed many times on Carl Oppedahl's EFS mailing list. I suggest two things (1) an option to convert drawings submitted as black and white line drawings to pure black and white (i.e. no grayscale overlay), and (2) have a... more »

IDS Submissions in Related Cases

Enable applicants to identify related applications for purposes of IDS considerations. By simply checking a box, Examiners would then have the IDS submissions in related cases presented for their consideration and initialing without requiring applicants to complete duplicate IDS forms.

Simplified Continuation Application Filing

A continuation or divisional application generally carries forward the original figures, specification, declaration, etc., as well as the IDS from its parent filing. It would be incredibly helpful if we could easily create a Continuation Application from a currently pending application, with auto-populated IDS, Spec, Figures, ADS. If you want it to be even more helpful, we could propagate any amendments to the Specification... more »

Drag and Drop Uploading of Files

Rather than loading one file at a time, it would save time to have a drag and drop interface for uploading files. This is fairly common in modern web interfaces, such as Wordpress, and easy to implement (CSS and Javascript) and there are canned solutions out there (for example, dropzone, filedrop, etc.). Think of the time that would be saved. Instead of loading all the application files one at a time, you can load all... more »

Information Disclosure Statement - Submission of References

Minimize the number of submissions as well as entries per submission when uploading references for electronically filing an Information Disclosure Statement. The ability to upload .zip files with numerous "Foreign" references in one .zip file, as well as uploading numerous "Non Patent Literature" references in one .zip file, etc. would save a lot of time in EFS-Web. Currently, having to browse; upload the reference;... more »

Assignments/Power of Attorney/3.73 statements

There has to be a better way to deal with this post AIA. A POA now requires an application number on the POA or the transmittal. This means you have to do a separate filing for the POA after you obtain the application number. If there is enough other identifying information, you should be able to attend to preparation of ALL of the paperwork in advance and then just do the filing without having this complex sequence... more »

It should not be necessary to submit prosecution documents

This has been suggested often in multiple forums: It should not be necessary to submit prosecution documents from other USPTO cases, since the Examiner already has access to them. It should be sufficient to list them on an IDS. Optionally the system could be enhanced to allow the user to select docs to cite from a drop-down list of the IFW of the other case, and that would allow the system to describe it in the IDS in... more »
