Automation of Common Administrative Tasks

USPTO is planning to automate the following administrative tasks through Private PAIR 1) New Customer Number Request, 2) Change Correspondence/Maintenance Fee Address, 3) Change Entity Status. Would you find these new functionalities beneficial? Please share what other routine tasks you would like to see automated.

Patent Portfolio by Applicant / Assignee

We would love to have the ability to search our entire patent portfolio to get a snapshot of ongoing matters. Of course, having criteria in place to filter (narrow or expand) search results would be useful. In addition, having the option to generate reports in different formats (xls, pdf, etc.) would be another useful option for applicants (large and small).

Automatic ADS Form Filling from PAIR

We would like to be able to generate forms from the PAIR website, specifically the ADS.

 

For example, when filing a Continuation or Divisional, it would be must easier to have the ADS form populated with data directly from PAIR, thereby preventing any operator error.

 

There are other forms that would benefit from this, but the ADS is the most problematic, particularly when claiming priority.

Renew Digital Certificates Electronically

Something that attorneys/staff are constantly worried about having to deal with is when their digital certificate expires. There doesn't seem to be a clear and easy way to renew your digital certificate after it has expired. In the past, I have had to fill out a form, mail it in, and wait an undisclosed amount of time for approval. Assignment Documents Available on PAIR

It would be useful if the assignment cover page and the executed assignment documents were made available on PAIR, such as through a link to the .pdf in the "Assignments" tab, similar to what TSDR does for trademark assignments.

Let attorneys subscribe to a PAIR calendar

It would be helpful if PTO due dates for a customer number could be downloaded or subscribed to as a calendar. Due dates for missing parts, office actions, issue fees would automatically populate a calendar, and attorneys could use a calendar app like Outlook or iCal or gCal to keep track of their due dates.

Simplify viewing maintenance fee data from PAIR

If you are in PAIR and click on the fees tab, it opens a new window and automatically fills out some application/patent information but requires additional information (application serial number) to be entered. That seems silly, since you just pressed the fees tab from PAIR so the system should know exactly what application you are inquiring about. Link to EFS-Web directly from Private PAIR

I would love to see an addition in Private PAIR to link directly into EFS-Web. For instance if I am reviewing a case in Private PAIR and I need to file something on the matter, I can click on the "EFS-Web" link and it will take me to the initial screen for EFS-Web but the application number and confirmation number are already pre-filled in for me so that I don't need to flip back and forth between the screens to fill ...more »
