Campaign: Modernization of PAIR

Link to EFS-Web directly from Private PAIR

I would love to see an addition in Private PAIR to link directly into EFS-Web. For instance if I am reviewing a case in Private PAIR and I need to file something on the matter, I can click on the "EFS-Web" link and it will take me to the initial screen for EFS-Web but the application number and confirmation number are already pre-filled in for me so that I don't need to flip back and forth between the screens to fill ...more »

Remove Case-Sensitivity of Search by Attorney Docket

this is a simple thing that always catches me off guard. The search by attorney docket is case sensitive and i always have to type in the query twice.

Please make the query case-insensitive.

Alerts/Monitoring of Applications (including 3rd party apps)

Provide a facility like the EPO's "Register Alert" / Monitored Applications feature. There should be two flavors of this. 1. One which does not require a PKI certificate (like EPO offers) which allows any individual to set up automated email alerts whenever a change occurs in a selected published patent application. 2. The other within Private-PAIR to allow PKI certificate holders to set up and manage email alerts ...more »

File wrapper synchronization using Box, Dropbox, or Google Drive

The USPTO should support file synchronization (e.g., Box, Dropbox, or Google Drive support). PDF documents in the image file wrapper should automatically synchronize to subscribed users' Box, Dropbox, or Google Drive folder. Authorized practitioners and applicants could subscribe to private folders, whereas published application documents could be made available in public folders. My experience is that applicants typically ...more »

Enable change of entity status when paying maintenance fees

Maintenance fees are associated with the entity size at the time issue fee is paid. As patents are acquired and company sizes change, the entity size can change during the patent term.

Please let us select entity size change through the fee payment system, rather than requiring a separate communication.

Cryptographic Public Private Key in lieu of JAVA enabled EFS

Java EFS file seems problematic and regularly crashes. Updating JAVA for other web applications can impair EFS authentication. Could switching to a private pubic key system, with unique keys generated for each unique user solve this problem? Is there a better way to get around the refs file?

Collapse Financial Manager Notices

Users must access Financial Manager to add new personnel to their stored payment methods. When a user first logs into Financial Manager, they should have an opportunity to collapse various notifications so that toggling between payment methods eliminates the substantial space taken up by the notifications. To better confirm users have reviewed the data, the option to collapse could appear after initial login. For example, ...more »

Separate EFS-Contingency from EFS-Registered

Carl Oppedahl has done a much more thorough treatment of the topic at http://blog.oppedahl.com/?p=208; in short, though, a major fault in EFS should not be able to knock out EFS-Contingency as well.

Campaign: Leveraging Text

Application Documents in Text Form

In addition to collecting text information from applicants, the USPTO would also like to send and display patent application documents in a text format. If your application documents are provided to you in text, will that help you in future electronic filings?

Download Examiner-cited references to IDS

Currently, whenever the Examiner cites references, you have to manually hand-key them into an IDS form for submission in other cases. As the form we see in PAIR is obviously auto-generated, or at least all info contained therein is stored separately - see as proof the 'Download References' functionality - give us the option to download e.g. XML data for all references cited that can be imported directly into an IDS. ...more »

Staff login/easier way to swtich between certificate users?

At our firm, our staff is the one that logs in on behalf of the attorney (we do the certification thing) and they do the uploading and submitting of any filings. One of the biggest complaints among the staff is having to log in as one attorney, submit their filing, and then log out/in when they have a filing for another attorney so that they can submit it under the different attorney's certificate. I feel that there ...more »

Acceptance/Rejection of AIA Compliant Declarations

Currently, it seems there is only a Notice issued if no Declaration is submitted, or if the Declaration is not proper. 1) We have received a lot of these Notices when a Declaration HAS been proper, just not the supplied USPTO form. 2) There is no indication on the Notice whether a Declaration is faulty or missing entirely, which would be much more helpful. (For example, if the Notice were to state a Declaration was ...more »
