Establish Patent Center inactivity timeout to 30 minutes

Due to updated NIST guidelines, the USPTO plans to set the user inactivity timeout to 30 minutes in Patent Center. After 25 minutes of user inactivity, Patent Center will prompt you to continue with the authenticated session. If you do not confirm that that you want to continue, your session will terminate in order to protect your patent application data. In most cases, to sign back in after a timeout, you would only ...more »

Special Characters on USPTO Forms

It would be great of USPTO forms were more friendly to special characters since so much information for inventors and places outside the U.S. use them. Once upon a time, copying and pasting special characters into a form-fillable ADS, while accepting them, would cause horrendous errors on OFRs needing correction. It is better now, but it would still be nice to see the forms more accepting of these characters, perhaps ...more »

Patent Portfolio by Applicant / Assignee

We would love to have the ability to search our entire patent portfolio to get a snapshot of ongoing matters. Of course, having criteria in place to filter (narrow or expand) search results would be useful. In addition, having the option to generate reports in different formats (xls, pdf, etc.) would be another useful option for applicants (large and small).

Corrections during filing of applications

Currently, if you discover that you have made a typo or checked a wrong box in the first part of a new application filing, there seems to be no way to go back and fix it without losing all of your uploads. You should be able to edit and fix these things easily at least prior to actual submission.

Campaign: Miscellaneous

Data Format Consistency

The format used for application numbers, dates and patent documents are inconsistent in PAIR, assignments, EFS, etc.. All areas of the office should utilize the same format for this data, or the software should be modernized to accept all of the common formats. e.g., 14/999,999 and 14999999 or

2015-01-23 and 1/23/2015 and 01/23/2015 etc.

Campaign: Leveraging Text

Application Documents in Text Form

In addition to collecting text information from applicants, the USPTO would also like to send and display patent application documents in a text format. If your application documents are provided to you in text, will that help you in future electronic filings?
