Enable Authorization of Deposit Account even if No fees are due

When you pay fees, you can authorize withdrawal of other fees from your deposit account.

This option is not available when no fees are being paid.

Please add the option. While we can & have used the response text to authorize the use of the deposit account, the Patent Office is not always consistent about noticing such an authorization.

Application Status on EFS Web, with Accurate Status Date

It would be useful to have the current status of an application displayed on EFS Web, in the block identifying the application. This is particularly useful if you are submitting an IDS (knowing that there was an office action set tells you whether you need to pay a fee.) It's also useful when submitting a response, as a reminder that an Extension of Time may be due, etc. It could be as simple as: Non-Final Action ...more »

IDS Uploads

When filing an IDS that contains over 200 NPL documents, it would be very helpful if we could upload more than one reference at a time.

Replacing an Uploaded File

When we do a final review of documents uploaded, we sometimes discover errors. In order to fix those errors, we have to first delete the file (losing the document description, or document descriptions and page numbers for multi-part files), and then upload a new file, and adding the document description again.

It would be really useful to be able to replace the PDF file, while keeping all the other data in place.

Stop uploading PDF forms; use screen fillable forms

We should be able to just enter all text based information using screen fillable forms. This would include (i) bibliographic (ADS) information, (ii) all IDS 1449s, (iii) the text of applications (title, inventor, government contract, priority, background, summary, brief figures, detailed description, claims, and abstract) using screen fillable forms, (iv) responses to missing parts, (v) response to restriction, (vi) ...more »

Captcha usage to correct typos

Get with Carnegie Mellon University and get in line to use their Captcha methodology to correct some of the horrendous typos found in some of the image-to-text conversions that have been done.

Allow different EFS filings to be opened in different tabs

Many attorneys work with staff members that help prepare documents and upload them to EFS for the attorney to review before filing. For IDS filings of complex families of cases, for example, this can mean having to review dozens of filings. Currently, each filing can only be opened one at a time, after about 8 clicks and repeated downward scrolls through the EFS page. Going back and seeing the next filing takes another ...more »

Payment for Electronic Filing

When paying PTO fees, we have to re-enter the credit card info, address, etc., separately for each filing. Why not enable registered filers to save the credit card info under a login name and password so that multiple filings could be paid for without repeated entries of personal info.

Applications associated with a particular practitioner

Right now, a single customer number is associated with a particular client, and/or firm. Multiple practitioners are typically associated with each customer number. Yet only 1-3 practitioners (prosecuting practitioner and their supervisor(s)) are actually responsible for a particular case. It would be helpful to the practitioner if there was a way within PAIR to view their cases. Most practitioners buy expensive software, ...more »

Let inventors sign online using digital certificate signature

It might improve efficiency of application processing if attorneys could email a link to clients/inventors where they could sign documents online. Applicants and inventors could sign powers of attorney, inventors could sign declarations and assignments, and owners could sign 3.73c statements, using a digital time-stamped signature, like the kind you can get from Comodo for free.

Separate Terminal Disclaimer Tab

A separate tab for terminal disclaimers would be helpful, indicating which patent/application is disclaimed, or perhaps linking to the document itself. A "map" layout might be useful.

Additionally, if the face of the patent itself could also contain which patent/application is disclaimed, that would reduce time searching through the file history.

Confirmation Numbers should not match Art Unit, as 4 digits

Confirmation numbers should have a different format from Art Units. I'm actually not sure what benefit confirmation numbers have, since they are available publicly via PAIR anyway. But the current format matches the art units, and they often get mixed up. Right now I have a case in art unit 2838 that has confirmation number 2883. It's just an invitation to mix things up. Please have Confirmation Numbers start with ...more »
