Special Characters on USPTO Forms

It would be great of USPTO forms were more friendly to special characters since so much information for inventors and places outside the U.S. use them. Once upon a time, copying and pasting special characters into a form-fillable ADS, while accepting them, would cause horrendous errors on OFRs needing correction. It is better now, but it would still be nice to see the forms more accepting of these characters, perhaps ...more »

VOIP Calls Through Computer as well as Phone Calls to PTO

Sometimes waiting on hold for the PTO is quite infuriating. Considering the large volume of calls placed daily, could the PTO implement a digital VOIP to enable calls through a caller's computer that has a microphone and speaker? This could allow for useful on screen features, s.a. a time to available agent, call position in queue, and other stats, which could be displayed quietly in the background while the caller ...more »

Batch Power of Attorney Filings

Currently, I can assign a number of cases simultaneously with a batch assignment, but I have to file a separate Power of Attorney in each case, via EFS. I use the same signed document for each (a general power of attorney). It would be much more efficient if we could add multiple matters to a single Power of Attorney filing. It would also be helpful if we did not need to submit a separate ADS form with the Power of ...more »

Eliminate Digital Certificates - Use Modern 2-Factor Auth.

Eliminate the digital certificates and Entrust Java applets in favor of using modern two-factor authentication methods. Here is a good blog post explaining why. http://blog.oppedahl.com/?p=226 Another reason to get rid of the Entrust java system is that many browsers will stop supporting plugins like java that are required for the entrust system to work. For example, Chrome will disable support for the java plugin in ...more »

IDS Submissions in Related Cases

Enable applicants to identify related applications for purposes of IDS considerations. By simply checking a box, Examiners would then have the IDS submissions in related cases presented for their consideration and initialing without requiring applicants to complete duplicate IDS forms.

Filing of Fees Due After a Submission is Completed

This idea is similar to one I posted earlier, but comes up in a different context. See: https://uspto-emod.ideascale.com/a/dtd/537995-31593, for the original idea relating to correcting EFS-Web filings after pressing the Submit button). Sometimes, either due to an error on behalf of the filer or due to the USPTO Financial Manager not working properly, submissions are made without payment of fees that are due. Sometimes ...more »

ADS form improvement

Preparing an ADS is simply a pain. Even worse is preparation of an ADS with corrections. It would be easier if there was some way to either correct or modify an ADS from EFS or at least provide a way to use underline and strikethrough on the ADS fillable form.

Fix menu sorting in EFS

This is a tiny tweak that would make things easier - currently, the dropdown menu to classify the files you're uploading is sorted alphabetically, but in a case-sensitive ordering. For example, in the petitions block of descriptions, there's a set of descriptions starting with 'Petition For', followed by a set of descriptions starting with 'Petition for'. Make the sorting case-insensitive instead, please.

Staff login/easier way to swtich between certificate users?

At our firm, our staff is the one that logs in on behalf of the attorney (we do the certification thing) and they do the uploading and submitting of any filings. One of the biggest complaints among the staff is having to log in as one attorney, submit their filing, and then log out/in when they have a filing for another attorney so that they can submit it under the different attorney's certificate. I feel that there ...more »

STOP logging people out of EFS-Web

Today I was logged out of EFS-Web with no warning for timing out after approximately 15 minutes. Nominally, it takes at least 30 minutes of no activity for a log-out. But I have received the log-out warning or been logged out for no activity WHILE I was uploading documents. The PTO's explanation notes: "Note that a logout will automatically occur when your session times out based on the defined user timeout value." ...more »

"Oops" options for filing submissions

Often, well hopefully not too often but sometimes, you realize a mistake in a filing as soon as you press the submit button. Examples of such things might be forgetting to include a document in the filing, forgetting to pay an extension of time or other fee, or others. It would be convenient if one or more options existed for correcting a filing immediately following submission. For example, a button on the receipt ...more »

IDS submissions

The EFS Web IDS forms are for the most part pretty user friendly, but there are improvements that could be made. First, it would be better if you make an error in formatting an input, if the field would not go blank to require you to re-enter the data. For example, if you omit an extra zero in a U.S. patent publication, why not give an error message and return us to the entry to correct rather than wiping out the entry ...more »
