Assignments/Power of Attorney/3.73 statements

There has to be a better way to deal with this post AIA. A POA now requires an application number on the POA or the transmittal. This means you have to do a separate filing for the POA after you obtain the application number. If there is enough other identifying information, you should be able to attend to preparation of ALL of the paperwork in advance and then just do the filing without having this complex sequence ...more »

Provide an Alert if there is something wrong/EFS is not working

It appears that EFS stops working periodically, with little warning. It would be really useful if there were a "live" status update on EFS when we log into EFS. For example, today I uploaded a patent application. It was validated, and everything looked like it was going well, until I clicked Submit. At that point I got a notice that said: "Your request could not be completed at this time. Please try again later." ...more »

Access Financial Manager via EFS login

After logging in to EFS using your PKI certificate, if you need to pay for something, you need to log in again to Financial Manager. This wastes time and often (for me at least) the link forwarding you to the financial manager page is broken, which means you cannot pay in the same session and causes a whole different set of problems. I suggest somehow linking access to financial manager to a given PKI certificate so ...more »

Acceptance/Rejection of AIA Compliant Declarations

Currently, it seems there is only a Notice issued if no Declaration is submitted, or if the Declaration is not proper. 1) We have received a lot of these Notices when a Declaration HAS been proper, just not the supplied USPTO form. 2) There is no indication on the Notice whether a Declaration is faulty or missing entirely, which would be much more helpful. (For example, if the Notice were to state a Declaration was ...more »

Streamline EFS-Web Menus for My Workplace / Saved Submissions

The "saved packages" area within EFS-Web is presently buried below 4 levels of unnecessary heirarchy requiring 5 clicks to get to the list of "My Saved Packages" associated with an individual's PKI certificate. The list of "My Saved packages" (saved submissions) should either be moved to the top level or made accessible by a single click below the top level of the menu. Switching to "saved packages by customer number" ...more »

Payment of Issue Fee after Failure of Financial Manager

Sometimes, and frequently enough to warrant this comment, the Financial Manager payment system does not work at the exact moment you are submitting an issue fee payment. Unfortunately, the system often goes down temporarily and without notice (so the user has no idea that the system is not working) or there is some glitch with the browser being used such that the end result is that the payment system does not work. ...more »

Application Status on EFS Web, with Accurate Status Date

It would be useful to have the current status of an application displayed on EFS Web, in the block identifying the application. This is particularly useful if you are submitting an IDS (knowing that there was an office action set tells you whether you need to pay a fee.) It's also useful when submitting a response, as a reminder that an Extension of Time may be due, etc. It could be as simple as: Non-Final Action ...more »

Allow Users to Set a Timeout Period

Often, sometimes seemingly random, EFS or PAIR automatically logs the user out. It would be helpful to allow a user to set an inactivity period for automatic logout. When filing multiple papers in a single day, the time between submissions is often greater than the automatic time out period. This requires multiple logins and two-factor authentications (as selecting the checkbox for a trusted computer does nothing). ...more »

STOP logging people out of EFS-Web

Today I was logged out of EFS-Web with no warning for timing out after approximately 15 minutes. Nominally, it takes at least 30 minutes of no activity for a log-out. But I have received the log-out warning or been logged out for no activity WHILE I was uploading documents. The PTO's explanation notes: "Note that a logout will automatically occur when your session times out based on the defined user timeout value." ...more »
