Petition to Withdraw - Optional Correspondence Address Change

It would be nice to have the ePetition for Withdrawal as Attorney to mirror PTO/AIA/83 by only taking correspondence address information if it needs to be changed to the applicant/inventor. Form 83 doesn't require the practitioner to enter new correspondence information unless there needs to be a change to what is already present.

Application Documents in Text Form

In addition to collecting text information from applicants, the USPTO would also like to send and display patent application documents in a text format. If your application documents are provided to you in text, will that help you in future electronic filings?

Saving Assignment Templates on EPAS

Allow us to save Assignment Templates at any stage of the Assignment process.

I have to go all the way to the end to save a template, which means it includes not only my data and the assignee data, but also the assignee data, which has to be edited (at a minimum the date the document was signed is unlikely to be the same.)

Allow us to save the template with just our data, as well as with our data & assignee data.

Previously Paid Issue Fee Amount

Currently, there is no way to pay an issue fee via the new payment system in an amount less than the current full amount (i.e., $1000). In some instances, an issue fee may be paid under an older fee schedule (i.e., $960), but withdrawn from issue for some reason (e.g., to IDS a foreign office action/references). Once the application is allowed again, only the difference (i.e., $40) should be due, but the payment system ...more »

Enable Authorization of Deposit Account even if No fees are due

When you pay fees, you can authorize withdrawal of other fees from your deposit account.

This option is not available when no fees are being paid.

Please add the option. While we can & have used the response text to authorize the use of the deposit account, the Patent Office is not always consistent about noticing such an authorization.

eTerminal Disclaimer - list the patent disclaimed

I think when you get the automatic approval of an e-Terminal Disclaimer in EFS, that the approval receipt document should include the patent/application number(s) that were listed in the disclaimer. I think it would also be very helpful if the notice on the front of the patent indicating that the patent is subject to a disclaimer also listed the patents/application number(s) disclaimed.

Customized PAIR splash page

Reactions to the recent updates to the PAIR front page have been extremely mixed, but one thing is abundantly clear: people want different things to be immediately available on the PAIR splash page. I know some people who never search by docket number, only by application number; personally, the only search options I usually care about are correspondence and docket number. So why not make the splash page customizable, ...more »

Streamline PAIR search functions

Instead of all the radio buttons for various search functions in the public-PAIR-like section of PAIR, it would be significantly better if the search function were simply smart enough to distinguish between the various types of numbers. The various case numbers are deliberately different for just this reason, and I would think it should be fairly simple to implement.

One and Done

This is ridiculous to select User Authentication Method each time you log on. We should only be required to do this once especially if you're using the same (dedicated) computer! It is such a waste of time to do this each time. Below is what we see each time! Portal to send password to open an encrypted file before meeting

Perhaps a secure portal could be added through which an applicant or applicant's representative can send an examiner a password to open an encrypted file containing claim drafts or other material before an interview meeting. The portal would not burden an examiner with any messages or e-mail, but would contain only a password and would indicate the type of file that would later arrive by e-mail or file-sharing platform. ...more »

Automatically Save In Process Submissions if Timed Out

The Time-Out appears to happen sometimes unexpectedly. It's always frustrating when that happens. This is especially true if the timeout occurs while uploading something more complex like a patent application with references.

It would be a simple solution to have the system automatically save the in-progress upload, so we do not have to restart from scratch.

Keep paragraph numbers in issued patents

When applications are filed and published pre-grant, they have paragraph numbers, and those paragraph numbers are also used during prosecution to make any amendments to the specification When the patent issues, those paragraph numbers disappear and are replaced with column/line numbers. Wouldn't it be easier for the PTO and the reviewing public to have a consistent specification appearance by simply staying with the ...more »
