Cutting Down on Miscellaneous Items

If the PTO could release a statement or update the rules to state that Certificates of Electronic Transmission and manual Fee Sheets, Transmittals for Applications, IDSs, etc. are no longer necessary, that would shave about an hour off of my day, every day. I stopped using these superfluous items years ago, but older attorneys only see where the rules say you "should" use them. I agree, back when paper filing was the... more »

Improived Notification to File Corrected Application Papers

Currently the form for the Notification to File Corrected Application Papers includes lots of check boxes but little room to enter free-form text. I have spoke to USPTO employees who have said (rightly or wrongly) that they are not permitted to provide free-form text and are instructed only to check boxes on the form.

Often, the information conveyed in the checked box is so broad as to be useless and much time is spent... more »

Patent Holder Information

When accessing maintenance fee information, the Patent Holder Information is actually the information for the Fee Address. While I understand much of the public may not identify with "Fee Address," labeling this as the "Patent Holder" isn't appropriate either. I would like to suggest a revision to something similar to Fee Payer Information. This way if the information is for a law firm or annuity provider, it will... more »

PAIR to EFS link

How about a control on a PAIR record || Application Data tab that opens an EFS session with Existing application selected, Documents and fees selected, and the application number and confirmation number entered?

eTerminal Disclaimer - list the patent disclaimed

I think when you get the automatic approval of an e-Terminal Disclaimer in EFS, that the approval receipt document should include the patent/application number(s) that were listed in the disclaimer. I think it would also be very helpful if the notice on the front of the patent indicating that the patent is subject to a disclaimer also listed the patents/application number(s) disclaimed.

Saving Assignment Templates

Allow us to save Assignment Templates at any stage of the Assignment process.

I have to go all the way to the end to save a template, which means it includes not only my data and the assignee data, but also the assignor data, which has to be edited (at a minimum the date the document was signed is unlikely to be the same.)

Allow us to save the template with just our data, as well as with our data & assignee data.

Do not duplicate

Since I am a beginner, there are things that are obvious to the USPTO personnel but not to me.

An example is filing a petition and discovering a few days later that you can file an ePetition. I was going to file an ePetition, but it was explained to me by a representative at the IAC that it would be very difficult to sort out at the USPTO. When I eventually reached the Petition office, they politely said "do not... more »

Securing USPTO online access

Not Happy.

The Office's decision to eliminate the ability to review Public PAIR data while logged into Private PAIR is a huge step in the wrong direction. What you are essentially asking users to do is to have two versions of PAIR open in order to do their daily duties. I understand that data mining is a concern of the Office, however, the Customer Number practice was intended to help avoid access to unpublished applications... more »
