Collapse Financial Manager Notices

Users must access Financial Manager to add new personnel to their stored payment methods. When a user first logs into Financial Manager, they should have an opportunity to collapse various notifications so that toggling between payment methods eliminates the substantial space taken up by the notifications. To better confirm users have reviewed the data, the option to collapse could appear after initial login. For example,... more »

Facilitate Complete XML Data File Download for Customer Number

There needs to be a better way to get all XML data for all applications associated with a customer number. Currently outgoing correspondence xml data, customer number xml data, and app-specific xml data all have to be downloaded in order to get all relevant data for applications associated with a customer number. This data is used to auto-populate an on-the-fly docket program, whereby custom rules are applied to generate... more »

Pre-exam policies and procedures should be public

Most of the internal pre-examination procedures are opaque outside of the USPTO. It would be very help to have, in writing, on the USPTO website the exact internal procedures used to evaluate whether a Power of Attorney form, drawings, application data sheet, etc. are compliant. This would help reduce errors and ultimately reduce USPTO staff work load.

Saving Assignment Templates

Allow us to save Assignment Templates at any stage of the Assignment process.

I have to go all the way to the end to save a template, which means it includes not only my data and the assignee data, but also the assignor data, which has to be edited (at a minimum the date the document was signed is unlikely to be the same.)

Allow us to save the template with just our data, as well as with our data & assignee data.

Electronic Interview Form Suggestion

Thinking of ways to streamline processes...It would be helpful when you clicked on an examiner's name and it took you to their contact information that there was also an option (with a link) to the Electronic Interview Request form.

Favorite Attorneys on MyUSPTO

When we log into MyUSPTO and go to file a patent or check PAIR, we are asked to pick a practitioner. As it stands now, the list is haphazard and in no particular order. I saw another submitter suggest that the practitioners be in alphabetical order. I like that idea but I'd like to take it one step further. How about having favorite practitioners? My firm currently has 48, but the ones I work with the most are less than... more »

Securing USPTO online access

Not Happy. The Office's decision to eliminate the ability to review Public PAIR data while logged into Private PAIR is a huge step in the wrong direction. What you are essentially asking users to do is to have two versions of PAIR open in order to do their daily duties. I understand that data mining is a concern of the Office, however, the Customer Number practice was intended to help avoid access to unpublished applications... more »

Submission of Petition for Foreign Filing License

Currently the Petition for Foreign Filing License must be submitted via FAX. The petition and accompanying documents must be faxed to the appropriate office and, according to the people who process the petitions, the documents are not received in their mailbox until the following day. Follow up to make sure the fax was properly received is thereby delayed. The usual turn around time to receive the License is 2-3 business... more »

Opt-Out for Original Patent Grant

Allow applicants to opt-out of receiving an original patent grant as many do not wish to store the original documents. Although they are nicely presented, entities with large portfolios find little value in the original ribbon document. Allowing those who do not wish to receive an original is a cost and environment saver. Law firms won't be asked to store thousands of original patent grants, or need to mail these documents... more »

Fix IDS form to accept six and five-digit patents

For many years, the Information Disclosure form does not allow the addition of U.S. patent numbers less than 1,000,000. Any attempt to add a number in the U.S. patent section with six digits or less brings up the following popup: "Invalid Patent Number format. Patent numbers can be up to 13 charates, with the first two being alpha numeric. EXAMPLE: 99,999,999; 9999999." Trying to fool the form by adding a leading... more »

Do not duplicate

Since I am a beginner, there are things that are obvious to the USPTO personnel but not to me. An example is filing a petition and discovering a few days later that you can file an ePetition. I was going to file an ePetition, but it was explained to me by a representative at the IAC that it would be very difficult to sort out at the USPTO. When I eventually reached the Petition office, they politely said "do not... more »

More on Data Consistency

Currently there are many variations in the placement of data (application no., file date, docket no., etc.) on a communication from the Patent Office. It would be helpful if all communications used exactly the same basic format for application data, etc. For example, the arrangement of data in a Notice of allowance is different from the arrangement of data on an Office Action. Decisions on petitions are somewhat free-form.... more »

Improived Notification to File Corrected Application Papers

Currently the form for the Notification to File Corrected Application Papers includes lots of check boxes but little room to enter free-form text. I have spoke to USPTO employees who have said (rightly or wrongly) that they are not permitted to provide free-form text and are instructed only to check boxes on the form. Often, the information conveyed in the checked box is so broad as to be useless and much time is spent... more »

Patent Holder Information

When accessing maintenance fee information, the Patent Holder Information is actually the information for the Fee Address. While I understand much of the public may not identify with "Fee Address," labeling this as the "Patent Holder" isn't appropriate either. I would like to suggest a revision to something similar to Fee Payer Information. This way if the information is for a law firm or annuity provider, it will... more »
