"Sort by patent number" in the workbench does not work correctly

One of our listserv members reports: Sorting applications in the workbench by patent number does not work correctly.

The coders who designed the Patentcenter workbench made a mistake in the "sort by patent number" function. The way I encountered this mistake by the Patentcenter coders is that I had hoped to generate a list of the most recent three issued US utility patents that we obtained in our work for a particular... more »

DOCX produces blank page or incorrect formatting trending idea

Blank window when reviewing document that was uploaded as DOCX and converted by USPTO to PDF. Also, conversion from DOCX to PDF creates issues with formatting of document (headers, footers, title, error messages shown in converted document)

Customer Number Selection Consistency Between Workbench Modules

By default, all customer numbers are chosen when going between modules in Workbench (i.e., Saved Submissions, Applications, and Correspondence). Instead, I suggest that once a customer number set (or single customer number) is selected in one module, that the same selection applies to the other two modules. For example, if I choose customer #12345 alone in the Applications module, then Saved Submissions and Correspondence... more »

Patentcenter converts a perfectly good PDF into a blank page in trending idea

One of our listserv members reports:

When we e-file a document in EFS-Web or in Patentcenter, our habit is go to later into Private PAIR or Patentcenter to look in IFW to see what is actually there. The goal is to compare what is actually there with what we think we e-filed. In an ideal world "going later to look in IFW" would not even be needed because the USPTO systems would always faithfully store exactly what we... more »

Link to Apn in PC after submitting a filing / file history

It would be very helpful if once you are done submitting something in Patent Center that instead of going back to the Home screen and searching for the same case, you can click the application number (or whatever) and it will take you to that specific case in Patent Center. It is our procedures that once a filing is submitted we download an "as filed" version for our official internal file wrapper and make sure there... more »

"Attorney Docket #" missing from fee-payment process

Patent Center seems to not be associating the attorney docket number of a submission with a fee payment for that submission. When going from Patent Center to the fee payment page, the fee payment confirmation shows an "Attorney Docket #" column, but it's empty. This results in accounting problems for the practitioner, where the practitioner cannot readily tell from deposit account payment records what attorney docket... more »

Partially off-screen pop-up window

One of our listserv members reports pop-up windows (such as when selecting document types when uploading PDF documents to be split) are cut off/partially off-screen when viewing in an other-than-maximized window.

ADS does not populate all data into PatentCenter

One of our listserv members reports: I just tried to file an application in Patentcenter. I always use the PTO's fillable-PDF PTO/AIA/14, and I checked that the one I used today is the latest one (02-18). After having uploaded the completed ADS (with no errors reported by Patentcenter) and gone through uploading/categorizing the rest of the application documents, I saw that the final screen with the "submit" button showed... more »

Drawings--Improvements When Filing Landscape Oriented Drawings

I had the following experience filing a provisional with landscape drawings. Before continuing, I should note that I converted the drawings to bitonal formal (by converting to TIFF and back to pdf). They were standard Letter size with a landscape orientation.

When I uploaded the drawings in Patent Center, it displayed an error saying "Warning: The page size in the PDF is too large. The pages should be 8.5 x 11 or A4.... more »

Getting back to correspondence list from an application record

When reviewing an application record reached from a filtered Outgoing Correspondence list, there does not appear to be any way to go back to the filtered correspondence list. The browser "Back" function will take you back to the default list, but then you have to apply the filter again (and wait). Private PAIR has a tab/button for returning to the correspondence list. Please add such a button to Patent Center.

Patent Attorney

Downsized View a bit "glitchy" - When I minimize my browser window to half screen, or anything less than full screen, the Application view is quirky and not fully functional. The left navigation menu with "Application Data", "Documents & Transactions," etc. disappears and is no longer accessible. At the bottom, left-right scroll is not available to scroll the entire window. And within the Application Data screen, when... more »

Give ack receipt a unique name

One of our listserv members says, "In EFS-Web each ack receipt gets a file name that is unique. Patentcenter always tries to give the same name (N417) to every ack receipt. What Patentcenter should do is give a unique name to each ack receipt. The source of uniqueness in the file name for the ack receipt could be the application number or the docket number or even the patentcenter submission number." This is Patentcenter... more »

Web-based Form 85B fails to auto-load into USPTO system

The Web-based Form 85B fails to auto-load into USPTO system for front page of issued patent.

Patentcenter does not preserve the computer-readable characters entered by the filer. This means those characters never have any opportunity to auto-load into USPTO's systems. Instead, and I am not making this up, Patentcenter flattens the characters into images which go into IFW. What happens next is that human beings at the... more »
