The menu bar labels on the submission screen are confusing. "New Submission" is used for an initial submission to start a proceeding (including an application), while "Existing Submission" is used for a follow-on submission in an existing proceeding. But a new follow-on submission is still a new submission so that can be confusing, while "existing submission" sounds like a saved submission to be edited or filed. Why... more »
Patent Center Beta Release
Our workflow is that a paralegal uploads the documents to be submitted, the attorney reviews them, and if correct, instructs the paralegal to submit. What we are seeing is that, once the attorney reviews the uploaded documents, the paralegal then no longer has those documents in her Workbench, and cannot submit the reviewed documents. This seems like a bug. I hope it's not a "feature."
I am in the middle of my first submission using PatentCenter instead of EFS-Web. It is a disaster. What were the Alpha testers doing that they allowed this to get to the Beta stage. 1. As part of our internal QC process, we have paralegals who check the submissions after they are uploaded and saved. Part of that process includes checking that document parts have been correctly labelled. And that requires being able... more »
Please look into the speed issue with Patent Center. For the past few weeks Patent Center has been performing much slower than Private PAIR (when PAIR is operating).
Users will be slow to accept and adopt Patent Center if users do not see improvement with speed and access.
On the Electronic Acknowledgement Receipt for filing any documents, Patent Center specifies in the FILED BY field the name of the person who uploaded the documents for filing. But where a practitioner's sponsored assistant uploads documents and the practitioner is the one who reviews and submits the uploaded documents, that field should specify the practitioner's name rather than the sponsored assistant's name, since... more »
Why does the outgoing correspondence viewable in the Workbench, and filtered using the same criteria, provide a different list of results than the same feature in Private PAIR?
Similar to the previously-reported issue for the deposit account payment process, the column for "Attorney Docket #" is also blank on the USPTO Monthly Statement for the patent practitioner's credit card.
When reviewing an application record reached from a filtered Outgoing Correspondence list, there does not appear to be any way to go back to the filtered correspondence list. The browser "Back" function will take you back to the default list, but then you have to apply the filter again (and wait). Private PAIR has a tab/button for returning to the correspondence list. Please add such a button to Patent Center.
In my second filing experience, I have found that I am, after all, even though it did not work the first time, use type-ahead to find the part labels. The absence of a way to store a receipt for a saved submission is still an issue.
Looks like PCT application records are using inventor street Addresses in the inventor Name field. This was discovered while reviewing recent filings.
Emailed EBC about having the First Action Prediction Tab added to the Patent Center so that status letters can be requested for matters that are not yet being prosecuted.
The "Search for a patent application" field on the Patent Center home page should be revised to include attorney docket number as one of the options for searching. PAIR allows for searching by attorney docket number, and it is very common for a practitioner to search by attorney docket number. Thanks.
I just tried to make an issue fee payment in a reissue application, but the list of document descriptions available is context sensitive and apparently in a reissue application, the "Issue Fee Payment" description is not available. I scrolled through everything and it was not there. I thought there might be an alternative description specific to reissue, but that was not there either.
Currently in Patent Center you must actively click the search icon to get started. It would be awesome if users could enter their search term then launch the search by hitting the Enter key.
When using the Workbench to search for applications by specific criteria, it would be awesome to have the ability to move from one record to the next by clicking a button from the Application Data screen or even every screen of information. The buttons could appear near the top next to the Global Dossier button. A bonus would be to include the ability to jump to a specific record by entering a number between 1 and the... more »
