Do not duplicate

Since I am a beginner, there are things that are obvious to the USPTO personnel but not to me. An example is filing a petition and discovering a few days later that you can file an ePetition. I was going to file an ePetition, but it was explained to me by a representative at the IAC that it would be very difficult to sort out at the USPTO. When I eventually reached the Petition office, they politely said "do not ...more »

MyUSPTO experiences

I will document my experiences with myUSPTO. They are common experiences and the solution(s) obvious. The first thing I did was to select "Private Pair" in myUSPTO. When I did, I landed on a page "Access Denied for Private Pair". I then tried to close all browser windows and try again. I still landed on the "Access denied" page. If someone gets the "Access denied" page, then they will not go further. I have ...more »

Complete package of info available

When I go to submit my patent application, I'm expecting all of the required forms will be part of the package so I don't get mail saying I forgot part of the patent when I do it myself. What they are asking for isn't always clear either. I spoke to a representative who said each one is different, but aren't the main necessities the same?

Add Company/Firm Administrator Role and Functions

As firms and companies are creating individual logins for each user, it would be great to see some functionality around managing those logins at an organizational level. Things like the following: 1. Allow users to associate their personal account with an entity account (allowing an administrator to manage relationships on their behalf). 2. Build account relationships in bulk between users and fee payment methods (one-to-many, ...more »

Delay launch of new EFS login and provide Demo sandbox

The USPTO should not change the Java applet login without providing ample advance notice (1-2 months is insufficient) and without providing a clear description, working demo site, and pre-launch notifications for users to demo, analyze, develop new code, and alter workflows to adapt to the changes. Since the early 2000's when EFS was first launched, corporations and law firms have developed code to login, manage, and ...more »

MY USPTO - Patent Docket Portfolio View

I love that we can add cases to the My USPTO page to monitor easily, but currently the only view for each portfolio is by the title of the application. I would love to see an option to chose what fields to be displayed in that section. For example as a personal preference, I would much rather prefer to see application number and attorney docket number rather than the title. Also I assume this will change eventually, ...more »

Provide Dropbox upload as the backup to EFS and EFS Contingency

As I write this, EFS-Web and EFS-Web Contingency have both been down for several days due to a PALM outage (https://www.uspto.gov/blog/ebiz/). Would the Office please consider opening a Dropbox* account that would accept ZIP uploads of submissions during outages? We could prepare PDFs for EFS-Web as usual, but then ZIP and upload them via a non-USPTO service with confidentiality guarantees. That way no single point ...more »

EFS Contingency and Follow-on Submissions

The EFS Contingency filing system is currently limited to "new applications, national stage submissions under 35 U.S.C. 371, requests for reexamination, and certain petitions." The system should be enhanced to include follow on submissions as well. If not all types of follow-on submissions, then at least the big ones, such as replies to restriction requirements, non-final office actions, final office actions, and whatever ...more »

Reason for UPSTO Charge to Deposit Account

Often times, charges to a deposit account are expected and understood as to why they occurred. However, sometimes, a miscellaneous deposit account charge shows up and it is difficult to determine why the deposit account was charged (even though the fee code and amount is provided). It would be helpful if the person making the charge included a brief comment as to why the charge was being made. This would help practitioners ...more »

Make Patent Publications Available in Image File Wrapper

In order to view and//or download the PDF of a patent publication (either the application publication or the issued patent), many steps are required within PAIR. Click on the publications tab. Select the correct link to view the publication text. Press the images button. Press the all pages button. Then download the publication. How about simplifying things and just putting a PDF (and optionally Word or xml) version ...more »
