Alphabetize Practitioners or Allow Sorting

Staff who have been sponsored by more than five (5) practitioners will find it burdensome to sort through the long list when they are not in alphabetical order, or in another list hierarchy they prefer. The list is not sorted by any of the three showing criteria; name, registration number, or email address. Additionally, a filter would be extremely helpful for those staff sponsored by large numbers of practitioners ...more »

Allow tiered access to Private PAIR

With the new system of sponsorship, we can provide access to non-attorneys. However, the access remains all-or-nothing. Please provide at least two levels of access, owner and viewer, where a viewer can see and download data but cannot upload or edit it. Also, please provide such access this by Customer Number, so we can selectively give access to clients. This would allow us to provide access to clients, even if ...more »

MyUSPTO experiences

I will document my experiences with myUSPTO. They are common experiences and the solution(s) obvious. The first thing I did was to select "Private Pair" in myUSPTO. When I did, I landed on a page "Access Denied for Private Pair". I then tried to close all browser windows and try again. I still landed on the "Access denied" page. If someone gets the "Access denied" page, then they will not go further. I have ...more »

Make Patent Publications Available in Image File Wrapper

In order to view and//or download the PDF of a patent publication (either the application publication or the issued patent), many steps are required within PAIR. Click on the publications tab. Select the correct link to view the publication text. Press the images button. Press the all pages button. Then download the publication. How about simplifying things and just putting a PDF (and optionally Word or xml) version ...more »

Don't show "Patented Case" status until issuance

First time here; apologies if this has been asked and I overlooked it in my search. Today Private PAIR gave me a mild heart attack. I was checking the status of a pending application prior to filing a continuation. On the Application Data screen, I saw a "Status" of "Patented Case" (see screenshot, red arrow). Oops! Turns out the Issue Notification has been mailed, but the patent has not, in fact, been issued (see ...more »

Simplify Assignment Filing via PAIR

PAIR has a tab to show what assignments have been filed. It would be nice if we could enter the Assignment system from PAIR, and the Assignment system could pull the relevant data from PAIR. The relevant data should for example include the Applicant or current Assignee (as assignee) and the inventors (as assignors). The only thing that would need to be done is indicating it's an assignment, indicating the dates on ...more »

Search for Application - Make "Sticky" / Remember Selection

When searching for applications in PAIR, it would be nice if the search page stayed on the last selected option when no search results are returned. Specifically, when in Private Pair (and perhaps Public PAIR), the default selection under the Search for Application section is by "Application Number". If you select any of the other six options, and if your search returns zero hits, the page reverts back to the "Application ...more »

Digital Certified Copies via Download

The USPTO should provide the option of a digital certified copy that is just a file that can be downloaded, rather than forced to be delivered on a CD. there are many reasons why someone may want a digital certified copy of a patent/application. As an example that we face often, some countries (at least Taiwan) do not currently have a way to electronically obtain certified copies of patent applications from the USPTO. ...more »

Include Description/Title in Listed References

Right now, all NPL (and foreign) references are tagged only with "foreign reference" or "non-patent reference." This can be a pain when you have 20 NPLs and you need to download the one new one the Examiner is relying on. Ideally I would love a description (e.g. the author's name for any NPL, and the patent number for any foreign reference.) But if we can't have that, I'd like the items cited (or even better relied ...more »

Entry of Serial Numbers in Beta Citation List (Global Dossier)

This really is about the new Global Dossier (and PAIR Modernization seemed the closest category to comment in). Specifically, in the new Citation List Beta release, the field to accept application serial numbers is limited to 8 characters, so if you cut and past an application serial number in the format: XX/123,456 the end result will be XX/123,4 with the last two digits truncated (similarly, XX/123456 will be truncated ...more »

Provide additional Examiner data to Applicants

Patent Examiners are tasked with being the gatekeepers of patent applications. Cooperation between Applicants and Examiners is crucial to maintaining a high quality patent system. It would be helpful if PAIR (or any successor system) would be able to easily provide detailed information about a patent examiner in a centralized location. Such information can include: * Location (e.g., Hotelling, Jefferson building, ...more »
