Provide additional Examiner data to Applicants

Patent Examiners are tasked with being the gatekeepers of patent applications. Cooperation between Applicants and Examiners is crucial to maintaining a high quality patent system. It would be helpful if PAIR (or any successor system) would be able to easily provide detailed information about a patent examiner in a centralized location. Such information can include: * Location (e.g., Hotelling, Jefferson building, ...more »

Allow submission of CAD files, such as SVG and DXF

Under this proposal, the submission of certain open-standard computer-aided design (CAD) files would be permitted. The permitted filetypes can be identified in advance, but the idea would be to allow an applicant to supplement the application with a computer file capable of generating 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional visualizations of the applicant's concepts. Submitted CAD files would not replace patent figures and ...more »

Upload .xml to fill out web-based forms

We do not use the web-based forms because you have to re-type information that already exists in our docketing system. Re-typing is a sure way to cause errors. Instead, I have programmed our docketing system to generate .xml documents that can be imported into an ADS which fills a good portion of the information. We also generate .xml that we use as a template for EPAS recordations. It would be great if the web-based ...more »

Turn off password expiration for MyUSPTO.gov

Get rid of the expiration on passwords on MyUSPTO -- a good password that isn't reused across multiple platforms can be permanent. Is this solving a genuine and identifiable problem? No. Is there any conceivable way that a bad guy could get into uspto.gov and, for example, expropriate money from one of the credit cards? NO!!! The only payee is the uspto! Nobody's going to hack into a MyUSPTO account to when he/she ...more »

Modernization of EFS-Web

Do not use a log-in as a log-out

When we log into EFS or Private-PAIR half the time the system says "log-out completed."

This is never useful. When the system times out (which it often does), we never want to complete a log-out by entering the password again.

Please fix this broken functionality.

Enable bulk change of attorneys associated with customer numbers

These days most clients want their own Customer Numbers, so even small firms often have dozens of Customer Numbers.

However, if a new attorney joins, or someone leaves, each of the individual customer numbers must be edited.

It would be helpful if we could submit a single change, by adding or deleting the user, and selecting the customer numbers that it impacts with a checkbox.

Permit Miscellaneous Letter submission with eIssueFee payment

I often file "Comments on the Notice of Allowance." At this time, it appears I cannot do that through the e-Issue fee payment, which only permits three categories of uploads:

Entity Status

Since entity status may be updated through Private PAIR, it would be fantastic to have the ability to search by customer number and have returned in the results entity status. This would allow practitioners a quick way to review entity status for potential review. Additional useful, and impressive if possible, would be the ability to select the matters in the list to begin a bulk entity status change rather than having ...more »

Search by Status or Other Field and Filterable/Refinable Results

It would be nice to have additional fields to search on, such as searching by status. In a recent example relevant to me, i had several cases with issue notifications mailed, and it would be nice to search for that status, or that last mailed item, or other data besides application serial number, patent, application pub, attorney docket, etc. I know you can view recent correspondence, but that lumps everything together ...more »

Establish Patent Center inactivity timeout to 30 minutes

Due to updated NIST guidelines, the USPTO plans to set the user inactivity timeout to 30 minutes in Patent Center. After 25 minutes of user inactivity, Patent Center will prompt you to continue with the authenticated session. If you do not confirm that that you want to continue, your session will terminate in order to protect your patent application data. In most cases, to sign back in after a timeout, you would only ...more »

Search by Atty Docket Number

I'd like it if the "Search by Attorney Docket Number" would include an option to search for numbers "containing" the search string (in addition to the "starts with" choice), to allow easier searching on cases where we've got more than one reference number (for example, our number and the client's reference number) Maybe even better would be to provide a way to assign multiple reference numbers to the same matter, and ...more »
