Signature block for 85B form overly restrictive

One of our listserv members reports, the signature block for the 85B form wrongly tells the filer that the filer must provide the filer's name between the virgules of the S-signature.

37 CFR § 1.4(d)(2)(i) says exactly what a virgule signature (the USPTO calls it an "S-signature") is supposed to look like. The Rule says that what the signer must type between the two virgules (the two "slashes") is at least one letter... more »

View Receipt History improperly tied to IFW

One of our listserv members reports, the View Receipt History function of Patententer, which is clearly intended to try to replicate the "last 40 ack receipts" function of EFS-Web, fails at this because it has a guaranteed latency that is tied to the IFW latency.

The Patentcenter developers have said from the beginning that one design requirement for Patentcenter is to replicate each feature of EFS-Web (and each feature... more »

View Receipt History visible only to actual filer

One of our listserv members reports, the View Receipt History function of Patententer, which is clearly intended to try to replicate the "last 40 ack receipts" function of EFS-Web, fails at this because it is visible only to the actual filer and not to others who are connected with the application.

Inconsistent signed-in status in different windows

One of our listserv members reports, it is commonplace for Patentcenter to be "signed in" in one browser window and yet another browser window showing a Patentcenter page will be "signed out." It is weird to have Patentcenter be so inconsistent about the "signed-in" status across two or more open browser windows in the exact same browser.

Because the problem is intermittent, one assumes that this is not merely some coding... more »

User logged out early without notice

One of our listserv members reports that the "signed-in" status in Patentcenter disappears abruptly and without notice, long before the end of the usual 30-minute forced logout.

PAIR has two modes — "Public PAIR" and "Private PAIR". EFS-Web has two modes as well, a signed-in mode and a not-signed-in mode. So it is more or less to be expected that the USPTO developers of Patentcenter set it up so that there is a signed-in... more »

Wrong words used to describe what to do to e-file something

One of our listserv members reports, wrong words used to describe what to do to e-file something. It says "file another patent application" when that link is really for doing lots of things in addition to or instead of filing another patent application. It says "new submission" when that link is really for filing a new patent application, not "submitting" something in a patent application. It says "existing submissions"... more »

Give ack receipt a unique name

One of our listserv members says, "In EFS-Web each ack receipt gets a file name that is unique. Patentcenter always tries to give the same name (N417) to every ack receipt. What Patentcenter should do is give a unique name to each ack receipt. The source of uniqueness in the file name for the ack receipt could be the application number or the docket number or even the patentcenter submission number." This is Patentcenter... more »

Abridged File Wrapper Option

In the Documents listing for an application, there are checkboxes to allow selection of individual documents for download. There is the option to select or deselect ALL checkboxes at once.

It would be a great feature to add to have additional buttons that would allow the user to select checkboxes for all documents except NPL, or perhaps all documents except NPL, search listings, and other generally non-interesting documents.... more »

Supplemental Content - Filing/Load Date Missing Data

The supplemental content tab has a column header for "Filing/Load Date" for documents that are accessible via that tab, but the column is blank and there is no data. If it is necessary to resort to such documents to resolve a priority issue later, there is no data that the Applicant can point to that confirms the date of submission for a particular document.

This seems relatively easy to fix. I believe PAIR's version... more »

Sequence Listing on Receipt but on Walkabout for 3 Weeks

We filed an application that included a 3K sequence listing (SQL) text file on August 5, 2020. The N417 electronic acknowledgement receipt lists the SQL file as a submitted document and provides a hash/message digest for it. On August 18, 2020, we received a Notice to Comply With Requirements For Patent Applications Containing Nucleotide and/or Amino Acid Sequence Disclosures that indicated that the USPTO had *not* received... more »

Sign In Multiple Times trending idea

I sign into my USPTO.gov account, then click the Patent Drop Down and click on Patent Center. Once there, I do not have "Existing Submissions" available and when I look in the upper right, my name is not there. It still says Sign In. It seems that when you open patent center in a new tab, the sign in does not transfer.

Also the same when I open the link from the emailed receipt -- I can already be logged in and then... more »

Microsoft Word version saved filed documents/Converter

Have a Word doc saved version alternative to standard Adobe PDF. Miscellaneous

Supply all valid browsers, servers, etc. to be downloaded

It would be great if the USPTO could supply all valid/legitmate browsers, apps, software, servers, etc. to be downloaded. In other words I had a computer virus that used all the common browsers and files and apps and security encryptions used against me stemming from Stockton University that created a block that caused a technical difficulty on the USPTO. In other words I had to used their system (USPTO) to solve mailing... more »

application details/Examiner name

We usually like to copy and paste the applicant info from Patent Center into our documents as to avoid typos. If you are signed in to PC you can't copy the examiner name. It does a pop up instead with their name (which is appreciated) but we should still be able to copy the text. However, we noticed if you are NOT signed in to PC the popup doesn't work but you can select the examiner name on public applications. Is there... more »
