"This document contains multiple application parts" errors trending idea

In a trial ".docx" filing of a pair of patent applications, we received several instances of the above "This document contains multiple application parts" error, flagged as a fatal error, all for the Specification part. (The Claims and Abstract sections were apparently acceptable.) Needless to say, we eventually filed both of these .pdf.

None of these errors indicated what specifically triggered this error, so what... more »

Workbench / Correspondence / PDF trending idea

When downloading correspondence from Private PAIR the combined PDF file contains bookmarks in the format

"customerno applicationnumber date typeofdocument."

The equivalent bookmarks in PatentCenter only include date and type of document. That is unfortunate. The PAIR format allows us to parse a larger PDF file and separate it out into different files following our firm's naming convention. Adding the application... more »

Splitting DOCX files trending idea

One of our listserv members requests: Split uploaded documents after conversion to PDF. Fewer conversion problems would be created if uploaded DOCX document were first converted to PDF and then split into sections.

This is Patentcenter Feature Request FR14 in the PatentCenter Feature Request web page maintained by the PatentCenter listserv at https://patentcenter-tickets.oppedahl.com/patentcenter-feature-requests/.

Current Sponsorship is insufficient trending idea

One of our listserv members writes: The existing method of providing access to paralegals is too coarse. It is "all or nothing", all applications to which the attorney has access or no applications. The granting of access rights needs to be sophisticated as in ePCT, so that rights can be given as to selected applications. For example, a practitioner on multiple customer numbers cannot sponsor someone only for a particular... more »

"File another patent application" trending idea

The button that says "File another patent application" (and other prompts like that throughout Patent Center) should instead prompt the user to process another submission. Most of our submissions via EFS (and now Patent Center) are not applications but are rather documents related to existing applications. So the prompt to file another "patent application" is not correct. That was an error in EFS. It would be great... more »

Patent Attorney trending idea

Downsized View a bit "glitchy" - When I minimize my browser window to half screen, or anything less than full screen, the Application view is quirky and not fully functional. The left navigation menu with "Application Data", "Documents & Transactions," etc. disappears and is no longer accessible. At the bottom, left-right scroll is not available to scroll the entire window. And within the Application Data screen, when... more »

Patentcenter converts a perfectly good PDF into a blank page in trending idea

One of our listserv members reports:

When we e-file a document in EFS-Web or in Patentcenter, our habit is go to later into Private PAIR or Patentcenter to look in IFW to see what is actually there. The goal is to compare what is actually there with what we think we e-filed. In an ideal world "going later to look in IFW" would not even be needed because the USPTO systems would always faithfully store exactly what we... more »

Search and download large sets of data

Hi,

I see that there are some changes to Patent Center from the earlier beta version. In the earlier version, there was an option to search applications through customer number, which is not available currently. Even, the customer number field is no longer available at the application data page. I have following recommendations for your consideration:

1. The 'Search by customer number' option should be made available... more »

Leveraging Text (DOCX)

Template(s) would be helpful

It would seem helpful, to both the applicant and the Office, to have access to a .docx template that we can start from.

This could have acceptable fonts, type size, line spacing, margins, page numbering, correct headings and section breaks where required (such as for Claims, Abstract), suitable numbering for lines and paragraphs (if bold para. numbering in .docx will be a new requirement, currently optional per MPEP),... more »

No way to delete uploaded ADS

One of our listserv members reports, A Filer uses "Uploaded ADS" and uploads the ADS and uploads all of the other documents for a new patent application. Filer then discovers there is a mistake in the ADS. Filer goes back to the front of the filing screens. Filer clicks to delete the ADS. Filer gets a warning: Removing this application data sheet will result in all previously entered bibliographic data being removed.... more »

Need far more material on equations in .docx filing

It appears the only information on acceptable equation formats is in "Quick_Start_Guide_DOCX_Intake.docx", as an off-hand reference to "Unsupported OLE Objects", which states:
"(Supported OLE Objects include Visio.Drawing.11, Equation.DSMT4, ACD.ChemSketch.20, ChemDraw.Document.6.0, Equation.3)"

The one used with most versions of MS Word is "Equation.3". "Equation.3" had not been maintained for a number of years.... more »

DOCX Patent Application gets loaded as a reference

One of our listserv members reports: The patent application that I just e-filed in DOCX form gets loaded into the "non-patent literature" section of "display references". The impression that one gets is that the Examiner could cite our own patent application against us to prove that our patent application lacks novelty. See article. This is EBC ticket number 1-718687424.

This is Patentcenter trouble ticket CP43 in the... more »
