Patent Center conceals PTO employee title

One of our listserv members reports: the Examiner lookup for an application needs to stop concealing the parenthetical title of the Examiner, and needs to stop making it impossible to copy the telephone number and other information from the pop-up screen.

When the Office of Patent Application Processing (OPAP) decides to release a patent application to the Examining Corps, what does not happen next is the Examining Corps... more »

Deep link to e-file a paper in that particular application

If you are on a page for a particular application, provide a deep link to e-file a paper in that particular application.

USPTO would make it so that a user who has reached a particular patent application in the user's Patentcenter workbench could simply click a "deep link" which would go directly to the "follow-on submission" page for that particular patent application. This would save the user a lot of unnecessary copying... more »

Inventor names improperly jammed together

The "Application Data" tab in Patentcenter lists the inventor names, each on a separate line. This tab also has a "print" icon that can be used to generate a PDF file with the information from the Application Data tab. The PDF file is named "Bibliographic Data - Application - Patent Center - USPTO". The bug is that when Patentcenter generates the PDF file, it runs two of the inventor names together in the same line. So... more »

Patent Attorney

Downsized View a bit "glitchy" - When I minimize my browser window to half screen, or anything less than full screen, the Application view is quirky and not fully functional. The left navigation menu with "Application Data", "Documents & Transactions," etc. disappears and is no longer accessible. At the bottom, left-right scroll is not available to scroll the entire window. And within the Application Data screen, when... more »

ADS incorrectly flagged by Patent Center as being wrong version

We have noticed that Patent Center incorrectly flags uploaded ADS files as being out-of-date. The ADS form in question is the most recent form version for the ADS (PTO/AIA/14 (02-18), approved for use through 11/30/2020. This error only seems to happen if we start a new application filing and use the "Upload ADS" option at the first stage to provide Application Data through uploading a USPTO form-fillable ADS. It correctly... more »

Downloading IFW is non-intuitive

One of our listserv members reports: Downloading IFW is non-intuitive. A user downloads the IFW in PC by clicking on the box showing the number of documents selected and then selects the type of download. After doing so, however, nothing happens – there is no pop-up message that informs the user a download is in progress or has been initiated, and the download is not indicated by any web browser icon/message. The downloaded... more »

Search for patent # omits attorney docket

In PAIR, searching for applications by attorney docket number is easy: the docket number search is one of the radio button options on the front page under Search for Application, and when selected, opens up a dialog to allow entering the docket number. See attached screen capture from PAIR. The "Search for patent application" feature in PatentCenter does not allow searching by docket number at all. See attached screen... more »

Partially off-screen pop-up window

One of our listserv members reports pop-up windows (such as when selecting document types when uploading PDF documents to be split) are cut off/partially off-screen when viewing in an other-than-maximized window.

All members of customer number have "not enrolled" indicator

Patentcenter wrongly says that every user is unable to access any customer number in Patent Center or in PAIR. To see this, log in at Patentcenter, click on "Manage," click on "Manage customer numbers." Then click on any customer number in your list. You will see that every user is flagged with an asterisk as being "not enrolled."

Deep link to documents for an application

One of our listserv members asks: If you have just filed a paper in a particular application, provide a deep link to the documents for that application.

One of the things that I always do after I have e-filed something in Patentcenter is to go and look in IFW to see just what USPTO received from me. I want to check it to make sure I filed what I meant to file. I want to make sure that the PDF image did not get degraded... more »

Add attorney docket number to search field on Patent Center Home

The "Search for a patent application" field on the Patent Center home page should be revised to include attorney docket number as one of the options for searching. PAIR allows for searching by attorney docket number, and it is very common for a practitioner to search by attorney docket number. Thanks.

Abridged File Wrapper Option

In the Documents listing for an application, there are checkboxes to allow selection of individual documents for download. There is the option to select or deselect ALL checkboxes at once.

It would be a great feature to add to have additional buttons that would allow the user to select checkboxes for all documents except NPL, or perhaps all documents except NPL, search listings, and other generally non-interesting documents.... more »

Signature block for 85B form overly restrictive

One of our listserv members reports, the signature block for the 85B form wrongly tells the filer that the filer must provide the filer's name between the virgules of the S-signature.

37 CFR § 1.4(d)(2)(i) says exactly what a virgule signature (the USPTO calls it an "S-signature") is supposed to look like. The Rule says that what the signer must type between the two virgules (the two "slashes") is at least one letter... more »
